(Portland ME) Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to present an annual exhibition of paintings by gallery artists on November 1 at 10:00 a.m. The exhibit features a selection of paintings in a variety of styles and mediums that evoke feelings of tranquility or calmness in the viewer. Included in the exhibit are paintings by artists' Jane Herbert - acrylic on canvas; Michael Caudle - watercolor on paper; Bob Santandrea - pastel on paper; William Steele - oil on canvas; and Wilson Stewart - acrylic on canvas. On exhibit through November 30, 2015.

Jane Herbert has an unstructured approach to art and life that has served her well. Jane says, "instead of earning a formal education I gathered my brushes and toured Europe in a micro-bus, painting and learning as I went. Through my life I have embraced my creativity, and painting specifically. Since 2000, I have lived in Damariscotta. Though the place is beautiful I know that much of my contentment comes from the inner journey I have been on. Painting has been a consistant part of my life. Art helps ground my attention to my reality and helps me process how I feel about it. Often I recognize classic themes and honor them with a traditional style."

Michael Caudle is an artist and retired educator whose teaching career spans more than 25 years in grades K-12 with a concentration in Secondary Art and English. A multi-talented artist, Michael enjoyed an early career as a stained glass artist. Upon his retirement from education, Michael's artistic focus changed to painting. Primarily working in watercolors, Michael's current portfolio of paintings were inspired by his travels through New England.

Bob Santandrea is a retired patent attorney and chemist. For many years Bob's artistic interests were with the human figure and portraiture. After moving to Corning, NY he became more interested in landscape painting and re-discovered his love of pastels. Santandrea is drawn to the colors and spontaneity that the medium allows. Weather permitting, Bob enjoys painting outside to capture the light and colors of the surroundings.

William Steele is a multi-talented actor, director, and retired professor of theater from the University of Southern Maine. Steele's art is influenced by his youth hauling lobster gear in Casco Bay. Images of the working waterfront and his memories of those years serve as an inspiration for many of his paintings.

Wilson Stewart is a visual artist and Licensed Land Surveyor living in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Influenced by his grandmother, a gifted sketch artist, Wilson has drawn on and off again since childhood. Spending summers on Peaks Island in Portland, ME much of Wilson's current portfolio of paintings are a reaction to scenes of daily life and what he sees in nature.

The exhibit is open free of charge to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through November 30, 2015. Additional days and times by appointment. Richard Boyd Art Gallery is located on Peaks Island in Portland, ME at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street, in the first building on the right, on the first floor.
