(Portland, ME) Richard Boyd Art Gallery opens a solo exhibition of images by Friendship, Maine artist Pam Cabañas on September 1, at 10:00 a.m.  Much of Pam's work has its start en plein air, inspired by the "stunning visuals and huge hearts rooted deep in the harsh and ever changing coast of Maine. My work seeks to uncover the chords that bind the love of place with the creation and viewing of fine art. My exploration of the uninhabited islands of the Muscungus has led me into a series of paintings that I hope blend the shocking beauty of the coastal Maine environment with a self-portrait easily accessible to the hearts of my viewers. Working in two divergent mediums, soft pastel and monochromatic ink wash, I move ever closer to my artistic goals."

Pam's formal education in the arts include a BFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and graduate studies in hand lithography and art education at the University of New Mexico. Pam is a "full time artist with part-time incursions" which includes her work as a docent for the Farnsworth Art Museum. Pam's work is on exhibit free of charge to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through September 30, 2014. Richard Boyd Art Gallery is located on Peaks Island at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street, in the first building on the right, on the first floor.
