Columbus Day Weekend, October 11 & 12, from 10 a.m.– 4p.m., Cultivate will have a free open studio and farm tour with special workshops and demonstrations. Visit farms, watch artists working in their studios, see a forging demonstration, or learn how they make yarn, soap or cheese!

Belfast Area Farm and Arts Trail and Fall Tour includes 80 studios, farms and cultural organizations and highlights the network of culture, arts and agricultural richness of Waldo County’s 26 communities. It is designed for family participation, hands-on experiences and creative arts and foods demonstrations.

The map is available online at BelfastCreativeCoalition.org/Cultivate and is a compelling look at the concentration of creative industry happening in Waldo County.

This year the Cultivate preview party will be held as part of the Belfast Creative Coalition's Annual Fundraiser—Inspire-a-thon, an old-fashioned call-in Telethon televised on Channel 2 and streamed live over the web, September 28, 12:30-4:30 p.m., at the Troy Howard Middle Schools Stage.

Last October, 400 visitors attended the tour over a rainy Columbus Day weekend. This year’s goal is to double that number to 800 and by 2018 reach 2,000 visitors. Although there were visitors from 19 states and three countries last year, motivating local families to discover what is in their own backyards on a year-round basis is a priority for the Belfast Creative Coalition.

Here’s how to best proceed:

FIRST: Download the map and list of participating locations from belfastcreativecoalition.org. (Brochures and printed maps are also available at the Belfast Chamber Visitor Center at 14 Main Street, Belfast ME 04915. Maps will be in the outside door of the visitor center on Saturday and Sunday of the tour.)

THEN: check out specific site listings with images and full descriptions.
