Please join Black Bear Fine Art Gallery for a new exhibition opening Saturday evening, August 15, 5-8 pm, upstairs in Perkins Cove, Ogunquit Me. Refreshments will be served.

Surf Impressions | Ebb & Flow in the Tidal Zone is 4th in a series of 7 exhibitions at Black Bear Fine Art. This exhibition will highlight works of two seacoast artists, Alex deConstant and Jeffery Fitzgerald. Both will be presenting new works in the form of color woodcuts and abstract paintings respectively. Please join for a brief introduction and discussion with the artists about their work.

Alex deConstant is an artist and printmaker living in North Hampton, NH. He primarily focuses on hand carved wood blocks that directly reflect his observations and experiences in and around the ocean through surfing and coastal exploration. "Throughout my life I have been drawn to the inherent graphic quality of the wood cut. To depict movement from a stagnant material while balancing elements of atmosphere and color is very challenging.” Alex's work may be found in numerous private collections and in the permanent print collection of the Boston Athenaeum.

Jeffery T Fitzgerald lives and works on the seacoast of Maine. His acrylic on canvas paintings depict both the physical and emotional energy that can be seen along the ocean and coastline. “The act of composition never stops for me. The play of colors contrasting and complimenting is always new and strongly evocative. The paintings are about both light and brushstrokes at play.” Jeffery’s work may be found in many private collection and galleries throughout New England. “This exhibition reflect two artist highly engaged with the environments: the shoreline and sea of New Hampshire and Maine, both a master of their medium” explain Mr. Gorvett, artist and proprietor of Black Bear Fine Art and Piscataqua Fine Art in Portsmouth, NH.
