On Wednesday, July 30, 9:00am-12:00 noon, the Cobscook Community Learning Center will offer “Fun With Words! Poetry for Kids,” with instructor Ally Talbot.

In this class, kids will have a chance to play with words and build poems. Projects include 5 Sense Poems (think Mad-Libs, and all the possibilities!) and CandyWorld poems --what would the world be like if it were made of candy? It’s amazing what kids learn while having fun!

At the completion of this workshop kids will be able to identify what makes a poem, telling details that make strong writing, and identify and exemplify qualities that make a strong public reader. In this course students will hone their writing skills in poetry and any other writing. And of course, they will have FUN!

Instructor Ally Talbot graduated with a Creative Writing degree with an Education minor from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Originally from East Machias, she has taught poetry workshops for children at the CCLC and F.S. Banford Elementary School in Canton. Ally is also on the editorial board of Off the Coast literary journal. You might recognize Ally as a guitar player in the Sunrise County Ramblers band.

The class will be offered as one three-hour session on Wednesday, July 30, from 9:00am-12:00 noon in the Commons building at the CCLC, 10 Commissary Point Road, Trescott. This course is recommended for youth aged 9-15. Cost for the course is $25. For more information about the course, please contact the CCLC at 207-733-2233, or visit www. cclc.me.
