Maine Arts Commission Launches Teaching Artist Rosters
- January 08, 2015
Months in the making, the Maine Arts Commission is excited to announce two recently-developed teaching-artist rosters for its Arts Education and Creative Aging programs. These free online directories feature Maine-based professional artists available to teach pre-kindergarten through grade 12 and older adults.
The Arts in Education Roster features 27 artists including visual and performing artists. According to Argy Nestor, Director of Arts Education: “These teaching artists are dedicated to lifelong learning and arts education which are integral to their professional practice. Additionally, they have cultivated skills as educators in concert with their skills as artists.” To view the PK-12 Teaching Artist roster, click here.
The Creative Aging Roster currently features 14 artists who have undergone training in Creative Aging. They are ready and able to conduct high-quality, participatory arts programs for older adults in a range of community settings including senior centers, libraries, assisted- and independent-living facilities and cultural centers. Creative Aging artists offer multi-week sequential instruction that engages older adults in meaningful creative activity, incorporates creative aging principles of social engagement and mastery, and promotes intergenerational exchange.
