Ed Douglas "New Work" a solo show of new paintings at Greenhut Galleries. Opening reception Thursday May 5, 5-7pm. Show runs through the 28th.

Ed Douglas has devoted his life to painting. In a career that spans over fifty years, a well-respected now retired professor who taught at the Maine College of Art, he continues to strive for dynamism and unity in his work.

Ed says about the work, "There is reference to ongoing themes, groups of works or series that, for the most part, go back many years. Titles such as Bathers or Window Still Lives I can trace back to the 1960's. The Swimmers are a recent project from memories of my 6 am swims that have been a discipline for over 50 years. I make a distinction between subject and object, the latter is much more important to me as it is an aesthetic concern that involves the quality of the painting (the object)."
Douglas received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. His work can be seen not only in the permanent collection of the Portland Museum of Art, but also in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the San Francisco Art Institute Art Bank.

Ed's work is collected both nationally and internationally.
