Portland Ballet’s The Victorian Nutcracker in Two Locations!

PORTLAND, Maine – Portland Ballet Company’s (PBC) The Victorian Nutcracker is set in Victorian era Portland with stage sets and costumes inspired by the Victoria Mansion.

Two performances will be held at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center on Saturday December 13 at 2:00 p.m. and on Sunday December 14 at 2:00 p.m.  After the performance, the audience is invited to join us On stage for a Post show Meet & Greet with the dancers.  This is your chance to meet your favorite dancers and to get autographs and photos.

The Victorian Nutcracker will also be performed with full orchestra at Merrill Auditorium on Wednesday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. The PBC orchestra and chorus is conducted by Lawrence Golan, former concertmaster of the PSO.  Lawrence is currently Music Director for the York Symphony Orchestra of PA, the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, the Denver Symphony Orchestra, as well as his role as a tenured professor at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music where he conducts the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theatre. 

Audience favorite Jennifer Jones debuts as the Sugarplum Fairy, with Adam Sterr as her Cavalier.  Adam was most recently seen as Jack the Ripper.  Amelia Bielen and Matthew Begin will perform as the Snow Prince and Princess. New Gloucester resident Lauren Malloy dances the role of Olivia, the young girl who takes this magical journey.  Lauren is a student in Portland Ballet’s pre-professional CORPS program. The role of the Godfather, which was originated by internationally renowned mime Tony Montanaro, is played by John Saccone, who worked with Tony for many years.  John has portrayed the Godfather for over 20 years.
