(Portland, ME) Richard Boyd art Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of original paintings in oil by South Portland artist Rob Anderson on July 1 at 10 a.m. Rob works on the waterfront in Portland which offers him a unique opportunity to use painting as a visual record of his connection to this picturesque waterfront with its architectural diversity, crumbling old wharves, and blend of cultures.

Known for his traditional style, Anderson's recent series of paintings honor Maine's working waterfronts and capture the vibrancy of life and commerce in Portland, one of maine's major maritime hubs. A gifted artist working with a variety of mediums, Rob's paintings depict a range of scenes including seascapes, commercial vessels, pleasure craft, and the iconic islands in Casco Bay. The exhibit is open free of charge between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily through July 30, 2016.

About Rob Anderson

When asked about his art education and experience Rob said, "I was born and raised on a cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains where I fell in love with nature and began drawing at a young age. As a child I spent hours watching my scoutmaster noted Wildlife artist Clark Bronson paint and sculpt in his studio.

I attended Brigham Young University, and studied art under the tutelage of Frank Magleby, and James Christensen. While at Brigham Young, I was chosen to travel and perform on the International Touring Dance Team representing the University.

My youth taught me appreciation for nature and its beauty. Dancing and touring across Europe and communist China among other places, instilled the hunger for travel and discovering other cultures. I've been lucky enough to paint on-site in some inspiring places. The Alaskan tundra, the British Isles...the Grand Tetons and now the craggy coast of Maine. The possibilities here are endless. I do Love painting."

In 1998, after 17 years of owning and managing a successful small business Rob moved to Maine. His continued love of travel inspires him to paint a variety of scenes, resulting in an extensive portfolio of paintings depicting scenes of Maine's coast, water craft, wildlife, mountain ranges, and working waterfronts.
