Maia Snow '13 maintains a studio practice in The Artist Studios on Congress Street and works in Admissions at Maine College of Art.  Her works in this series were inspired by The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran.  For this project, Snow interpreted each chapter as an abstract painting.  In her words, "The Prophet reveals itself in a steady urgency, asking the reader to revisit and sit with moments of their lives through poetic language that underscores the profound meaning of our daily actions.  I was immediately drawn to this slowing down of time, thought, and action because it parallels the process of looking.  The twenty-eight chapters of The Prophet touch on the range of the human condition, from need to angst, fear, and hope.  A “How To” guide to life, it offers direction in the form of simplified suggestions to complex entanglements of emotional, mental, and physical circumstances."
