PhoPa Gallery is pleased to announce Gary Briechle Photographs, an exhibition featuring new work by Rockport-based photographer Gary Briechle. The exhibition will be on view from July 27 – September 3, 2016.  An opening reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, July 28th, 5-7pm. Briechle makes black-and-white photographs, often using a large format camera and wet plate collodion process. Turning to family, friends, and moments closest to him for subject matter, Briechle does not shy away from dark or disconcerting imagery.  Without judgment, he photographs the old and the young, the run-down and the beautiful, capturing an unfiltered and poignant reality. Of the medium, Briechle has said, "photography has the power to show the broken pieces, made whole again, for a moment.”  Gary Briechle was born in Morristown, NJ in 1955. He moved to coastal Maine in 2001. His work has been published in several issues of the New York Times Magazine and he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2015. With a few exceptions he draws and photographs daily.
