SEA HAG!

  • Date: August 27, 2014 - October 3, 2014
  • Location: Maine College of Art, Portland

SEA HAG! - Christopher Patch, Maine College of Art alumni ’98

“SEA HAG!” features four large block-printed and hand-painted canvases and nine monotypes. The exhibition is centered on the exploits of a fictional character resembling the archnemesis of Popeye, from the 1930s comic strips. The Sea Hag figure as a misunderstood archetype, living in isolation on Plunder Island. Her schemes to defeat Popeye and his cohorts often fail and she retreats on her ship, The Black Barnacle to her dark tower. Her plight is not unlike the trials of an estranged artist or outsider.
