Stitches

  • Date: September 5, 2014 - October 31, 2014
  • Time: 09:00 AM - 04:00 PM
  • Location: Whatnot Gallery- Spindleworks Art Center, Brunswick

It all started with spinning and weaving. Spindleworks is known for colorful threads that have made their way into clothing in the form of woven vests and scarves and onto tables in the form of runners and placemats. Over the years, the love of things fiber has only expanded in its scope among the artists at Spindleworks. While many spend at least some of their time weaving, a number also embroider, as well as quilt using fabric painting and collage, and unique stitching to embellish their compositions. “Stitches” presents a new body of work spanning these different thread based media and different techniques including freestyle weaving and free motion quilting. Inspiration has come  both from the artist mentors such as Catherine Worthington whose art quilts are well known in Brunswick, and from visiting artists such as Emi Ito who came for a presentation of her work this past winter. The exhibit is rich with texture and color and will include finished pieces as well as raw material for purchase. Join us on September 12 for the Second Friday Artwalk, 5:00-8:00 p.m. The exhibit will run through October.
