Maine Forum on Careers in the Arts for People with Disabilities

The Art of Working: Working In The Arts is presented by VSA arts Maine and the Maine Arts Commission. It is sponsored by the National Arts and Disability Center, UCLA, the National Endowment for the Arts, and VSA arts.

The day will include panel discussions with Maine artists working in the visual arts, music, theater and literary arts.Workshops will offer specific skills and strategies to help improve the work opportunities for artists of all ages and backgrounds.

Workshops topics will include: Marketing Yourself As An Artist; Money Matters for Artists; Accessibility Solutions; Preparing for an Audition;Your Portfolio and Resume; Vocational Rehabilitation; The Teaching Artist; and Social Security.

Keynote speaker will be Laura Fortman, Commissioner of Maine’s Department of Labor. All activities are fully accessible and free to all, and include day-long art exhibits and sales by Maine artists, one-to-one counseling and resources for attendees. The day will conclude at 5PM followed by a reception and networking opportunity for attendees, presenters, panelists, moderators and special guests.
