Distinguished public art critic Patricia Phillips will speak on the intersections of contemporary and public art, design, architecture, public space, and the landscape. Former editor-in-chief of Art Journal, Phillips is an award-winning arts writer, researcher, curator, educator and administrator. Her books and collected essays include “It Is Difficult” (1998), a survey of the work of Alfredo Jaar . She has recently been selected as Dean of Graduate Studies at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Her talk is presented by the Waterville Arts Council in conjunction with MIFF, the Maine International Film Festival. MIFF is showing films throughout the day about public art, such as Automorphosis, by Harrod Blank, a film about art cars. Blank will also be present at the gallery with his own Camera Van. A reception will follow the talk.
