The Maine Arts Commission is currently accepting applications for a contractor position with duties involving the production of the agency's 2009 Public Art Event Series.
This contract will pay $20/hour and will not exceed $4500.
About the 2009 Public Art Event Series
In an ongoing effort to support publicly accessible art in Maine, the Maine Arts Commission funded five lecturers on the theme: "Public Art: What's the Use?" to be held in 2009. The goal of the lecture series is to support a wide range of speakers, topics, and venues throughout the state and across the 2009 calendar. In addition to the lecture series the Maine Arts Commission is having a one-time grant competition for public sculpture.
Job Description
The 2009 Public Art Event Series Coordinator will be responsible for the initial organization, recruitment, and publicity of the 2009 Public Art Event Series. The Coordinator will work with various cultural partners to create a well balanced, dynamic calendar of public-art based events. The Coordinator will provide assistance and support to the cultural partners to facilitate the inclusion of their event in the series. It will be his/her responsibility to work with the Agency?s Public Art Associate and Communication Associate to increase public awareness about the Series and the individual events through marketing and PR efforts. The coordinator will assist in the design of publicity materials and set a plan in place to ensure that each event be properly documented.
Job Requirements
The 2009 Public Art Event Series Coordinator must have event planning experience and have a minimum of a Bachelors degree. Candidate must have a reliable vehicle, and be available to travel throughout the state. Candidate should have an understanding of current issues in public art, non profit organizations, marketing and public relations. He/she must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, be highly organized, be able to collaborate and work efficiently with various constituencies, work within the confines of a budget and be able to create and submit accurate reports. Grant writing and fundraising experience a plus. Art background and familiarity with Maine's art organizations, galleries and artists is also desired.
Contract Details
The 2009 Public Art Event Series Coordinator will be hired for the pre-production phase of the event with the intention that the contract may be extended if funding allows. Series Coordinator will be paid $20/hour, not exceeding, $4500. Series Coordinator will be reimbursed for mileage for work related travel at the state rate (.44/mi). At least 20 hours/ wk commitment required.
