Congressman Michaud Announces First Annual Holiday Card Design Contest

Congressman Mike Michaud is holding a contest to design his annual holiday card. The winning design will be sent to more than 5,000 individuals and displayed on Congressman Michaud's website, http://www.michaudforcongress.com.

Submissions will be accepted from April 16 to June 15. All entries should take into consideration the following guidelines:

* Contestants must be a resident of the state of Maine

* Submissions should seek to celebrate winter in Maine.

* Submissions must be non-denominational

* Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and not violate any U.S. copyright laws.

* Acceptable categories are paintings (oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc), drawings (pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers), collage (must be two-dimensional), prints (lithographs, silkscreen, block prints), photography and mixed media (use of more than two mediums).

* The artist who is selected must submit a license, provided by the Maine Arts Commission, outlining how their submission may be used by the office of Congressman Michaud.

The deadline for entries is June 15, 2009. To be considered for review, work must be submitted in digital format. Actual artwork will not be accepted for review. For further information, please contact Sarah Yanni at 207/287-6720 or arts.clerical@maine.gov.

Image format must be a digital or scanned image saved as JPEG (.jpg) with resolution of 300 dpi or higher at 5" x 7." When you save your image, use the following naming conventions to name your file:

* Artist name_title of image_year of work.jpg (Example: JaneDoe_Untitled_2004.jpg).

* Maximum of 72 characters in the file name.

* Name cannot contain any spaces or characters other than letters, numbers, underscore or hyphen.

* Work samples must be accompanied by a separate page that includes titles, dimensions, medium and date for each image submitted.

The contest winner will be selected by panel selected by the Maine Arts Commission. Five finalists will be displayed on the Congressman's website. The winning design will be sent as Congressman Michaud's official holiday card - the artist's contact information will be displayed on the inside. The winning artist will have an opportunity to meet with Congressman Michaud.
