Ron Bouffard directs "The Full Monty" opening the 70th Season at Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre about six unemployed Buffalo, NY steel workers who are getting behind in debt and family obligations. They look for gainful employment and will take anything except Security Guard at the Mall. While the play focuses on the out of work steel workers, the wives and girl friends play an important role as they are the back story for the men and are very supportive and loyal.
When the men learn about "Girls' Night Out at the Chippendales" and hear one of the Chippendales confide that they rake in $50,000 nightly, the men decide this is the way to go. This is easy money and quick too. But can they do it?
This is where the fun comes in, watching them learning the moves. They go from clumsy, awkward moves to gaining surprising ease and confidence and end up looking not bad at all. In fact, a rousing, enthusiastic reception greets them as the final scenes unfold at the nightclub with a smashing performance of "The Full Monty."
The book is by Terrence McNally and music and lyrics are by David Yazbek.
Patrons are advised the play has a mature theme and language.
The performance dates are October 2-11 and will be staged at Great Falls Art Center, 30 Academy St., Auburn. Curtain is at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sundays. Thursday is at 7:30 p.m.
