Art Museum Seeks Work for I-95 Triennial Invitational Exhibition

The University of Maine Museum of Art is pleased to announce the inaugural I-95 Triennial Invitational Exhibition. The exhibition, which will occur every three years, features a survey of the finest contemporary artists working in four New England

states: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The University of Maine Museum of Art, located in historic Norumbega Hall in downtown Bangor, is a part of University of Maine which is the state's premier public university. UMMA focuses on exhibiting contemporary art in all media and has a permanent collection of over 3,100 objects with strengths in contemporary photography, works of paper and original prints. The Museum will devote all of its changing exhibition galleries to the Triennial.

Calendar:

Exhibition Dates: April 23, 2010 - June 12, 2010 Entry Materials are accepted beginning: Monday, September 21, 2009 Entry Materials must be received by: Friday, October 16, 2009, 5 p.m.

Notification of Acceptance is Mailed: December 18, 2009 Delivery of Work for Exhibition: March 29, 30 and 31, 2010 only Opening Reception: Thursday, April 22, 2010, 5-8 p.m.

Pick-up Works at Close of Exhibition: June 15, 16, 17, 2010

Eligibility:

Artists residing in Maine (from Houlton, ME and points South), New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island (20 mile radius of Providence, RI and points North) who reside/create works of art within 50 miles from Interstate 95.

Medium and Size restrictions:

Original artwork to include: painting, sculpture, photography, mixed-media, works on paper, and new media. Works must have been completed in the last two years and not been previously exhibited at the UMaine Museum of Art. Size restrictions for 2-D

works: 70" x 70" x 5". Size restriction for 3-D works: 82" tall x 60" wide x 60" deep.

Entry Procedure:

A non-refundable $30 entry fee entitles artists to submit a maximum of 6 images. Submissions must be digital prints (laser or ink jet) 8 * by 11 inches, no slides or CDs will be accepted (except for video/new media). The actual works submitted must be available for exhibition if selected. All submitted prints must be labeled with artist's name, medium, dimensions, phone number, email address, and a number that corresponds with the entry form. Submitted materials will not be returned. Please do not include a self addressed stamped envelope. Artist must submit completed entry form. $30 non-refundable fee made payable to UMaine Museum of Art must accompany entry form to be eligible. Artists should submit resume and artist statement. In addition, you may include support materials (exhibition reviews, articles, etc.). Supplementary materials will not be returned. Please note that we do not accept original works of art or models. UMMA is not responsible for materials that are sent to us. Please do not call regarding submission. You will be notified by mail of works that are accepted or declined for exhibition.

Accepted Work:

Artwork accepted for the exhibition must be received by March 31, 2010, 3 p.m. Works must be presentation ready (i.e., framed/mounted and with the appropriate hanging hardware for

installation.) No brackets or clip-style frames. All artwork must be original in design and execution. Fragile artwork must arrive in its own display case. The UMaine Museum of Art maintains fine arts insurance on all exhibited work while at the Museum. Price/Insurance value must be indicated on the entry form. Artists are responsible for insuring works during transit.

Checklist:

A completed entry consists of the following:

-Up to six images (printed: digital print, ink jet prints). No larger than 8 " x 11"

-Non-refundable Entry Fee of $30. made payable to UMaine Museum of Art -Completed Entry Form -Resume and Artist Statement

Shipping:

Artists are responsible for delivering works to Museum for exhibition. Artist will cover all cost associated with shipping/delivering works for exhibition. Works may be shipped by FEDEX. If artist chooses to ship by FEDEX, works must be received by UMMA no later than March 31 at 3 p.m.. FEDEX shipment must be prepaid. At the conclusion of exhibition artist is responsible for picking up works no later than June 17, 2010 at 4 p.m. If works are to be returned to artist via FEDEX, a prepaid FEDEX shipping label (PRP) must be provided to the Registrar and must cover entire cost of return shipping. Any works left at the Museum longer than 14 days after close of exhibition may be discarded at the sole discretion of the Museum.

Ship/Deliver accepted works to:

UMaine Museum of Art; 40 Harlow Street; Bangor, Maine 04401. Work inadequately packed or obviously damaged will be refused.

Right to Reproduce Works of Art/ Photograph Works of Art:

Artists selected for exhibition grants the UMaine Museum of Art the right to photograph and reproduce works of art for educational, web-site, and publicity uses at no cost to the Museum.
