Christine Higgins, a former Cony High School Art Teacher, has extensive training and passion for paper-making and paper. "She considers the surface and fibers of the paper to be equally significant as her imagery.", states Janna Civittolo, proprietor and artist. Her work references nature and her connection with it. Higgins speaks that "this exhibit continues my interest in the color, texture, and light of the natural environment...Each paper comes from the original fibers of mulberry, abaca or cotton which are then soaked, beaten, pigmented, and drained onto screens."
Cerulean is delighted to bring to central Maine the opportunity to see a local papermaker's work. Proprietor and artist, Helene Farrar says, "Christine's print and paperworks are delicate and organic. We are very happy to share them as there is a great need in Maine to see and learn this process which is part of our local heritage."
