Chamber Music America Accepting Applications

Chamber Music America Accepting Applications for 2010 Presenting Jazz and French American Jazz Exchange PROGRAMS

In-Office Application Deadline: Friday, October 23, 2009, 5:00 p.m.

(NEW YORK, NY) Chamber Music America has announced two fall grant opportunities for the chamber jazz field: Presenting Jazz and the CMA/FACE French American Jazz Exchange.

These programs are made possible by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation; the French American Jazz Exchange is also supported by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Florence Gould Foundation, SACEM and CulturesFrance.

Presenting Jazz offers support to not-for-profit U.S. presenters (or presenting organizations with fiscal sponsorship) for the engagement of a professional, touring, U.S. jazz ensemble for concert performance(s) during the grant period January 1, 2010?August 31, 2011. Core support ranges from $5,000 to $10,000; additional incentives are available to presenters engaging ensembles that have received grants from Chamber Music America's New Works: Creation and Presentation/New Jazz Works programs.

Last year ten organizations, including Kerrytown Concert House (presenting the Human Activity Quintet), Walker Arts Center (Jason Moran's Big Bandwagon), and Ars Nova Workshop (Marty Ehrlich's Rites Quartet) received grants through this program. For guidelines and application information, visit www.chamber-music.org/programs/gr_jazz.html#PJE

The French American Jazz Exchange fosters collaboration and cultural exchange between French and American partners. Applications are accepted from a Lead Partner (musician/ensemble) seeking to work with a Collaborating Partner(s) from another country. The project must feature at least one public performance and may also include activities such as touring, recording, and residency work.

Since 2006, nearly 45 grants have been awarded to artists such as New York-based trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire (collaborating with French pianist Yaron Herman and the Ebene Quartet), baritone saxophonist Francois Corneloup and violinist Dominique Pifarely (with U.S. artists Dean Magraw, Arlie Huff, and James Thomas Bates), and New York-based guitarist Miles Okazaki and drummer Damion Reid (with French saxophonist Guillaume Perret). Guidelines and application are available at www.chamber-music.org/programs/gr_jazz.html#CMAF

CMA will hold four grant preparation workshops at its headquarters located at 305 Seventh Avenue in New York City; teleconference participation will be available. Contact Marc Giosi, Program Associate, mgiosi@chamber-music.org, (212) 242-2022, x14 to R.S.V.P. The workshop schedule is:
