Assistant Director of Major Gifts

Position Summary:

In preparation for the University of New Hampshire's next comprehensive capital campaign, the UNH Foundation is seeking an entry-level, energetic, and entrepreneurial self-starter to support growing activities of a dynamic Foundation and a productive major gifts team. Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, and working closely with all of the major gifts officers, this individual will develop a portfolio focusing initially on the qualification of new donors and prospects.

Responsibilities:

The majority of the Assistant Director's time will be spent meeting face-to-face with UNH alumni and friends to assess their short- and long-term interest in supporting the University, developing cultivation strategies, and determining and carrying out solicitation plans. He or she will also assist with various projects as assigned including organizing events on and off campus, coordinating mass mailings, and serving as a liaison between the UNH Foundation and UNH Alumni Association.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. One to three years of total fund raising related experience is desirable, one or more years of which should be in the area of direct solicitation of gifts. Some supervisory experience is a plus. Equivalent fundraising experience as a staff member or volunteer at an educational institution or other non-profit organization will also be considered.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. Exceptionally high ethical standards. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, motivation, enthusiasm, tact, sense of humor, and evidence of willingness to work both independently and within a team environment is essential. Marketing, public relations, direct sales, or teaching experience a plus. Willingness to travel and be available beyond usual working hours. Ability to manage complex internal and external projects to completion. Experience with advancement databases (Benefactor), basic understanding of gifts and philanthropy. Discretion and confidentiality relating to donor/prospect information. Organized, accurate, efficient and able to close a deal.

Compensation:

The position is full-time, benefits eligible and holds a pay grade 19 with a salary range from $45,030 to $69,180; starting salary not normally to exceed $51,070.
