Director of Development: Bethel Historical Society

Founded in 1966, and currently with over 1400 members, the Bethel Historical Society is one of northern New England?s leading regional history centers. The Society, located in Bethel, Maine, has offices, museum exhibit space and educational facilities in two historic buildings which also house one of the largest historical and genealogical research libraries of its kind in Maine. The Society collects, preserves, and interprets historical objects linked to the town of Bethel and northern New England, with a concentration on western Maine and the White Mountain region of Maine and New Hampshire.

Reporting to the Society's Executive Director, the Director of Development is responsible for a broad range of charitable giving programs at the Society. Goals will be achieved through building relationships with individual and corporate donors, cultivation and fundraising events, identification of family and corporate foundations with vested interests in the Society's mission, and Board engagement in the development process. The Director of Development will play a critical role in helping to build a financial foundation for the future expansion and sustainability of this fast-growing non-profit organization.

Job Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree preferred.

2. Background in fundraising and community relations preferred.

3. Knowledge of marketing and effective promotional strategies.

4. Familiarity with computer and donor tracking software.

5. Excellent writing and communications skills.

6. Good multi-tasking skills and knowledge of budget management.

7. Sensitivity to the need in non-profits for teamwork and working within limited budgets.

8. A passion for the work and an ability to inspire and motivate Board, staff and community around the mission of BHS and the goals of its expansion program.

9. Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends; some travel may be required.
