The USM Wind Ensemble presents their concert "Time and Winds" showcasing the evolution of the chamber winds in the 1900's. The concert opens with Tielman Susato's "Selections from The Dansereye; the earliest piece of music for winds performed in consort with USM Director of Bands Dr. Trae Blanco conducting from the harpsichord. Czech composer Ernest Kreneck is highlighted with his comical Three Merry Marches complete with movement and musical amusement. The concert closes with Kurt Weill's iconic Threepenny Suite from his opera of the same name. The ensemble includes USM alumni Jimmy Dority on accordion in this concert suite that will take you back to 1920's Berlin in an evening cabaret setting.

The concert will take place on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Corthell Concert Hall on the USM Gorham campus.

Tickets are $8 for the general public, and $5 for students, seniors, USM employees and alumni. Purchase tickets online at www.usm.maine.edu/music/boxoffice, by phone at (207) 780-5555, or at the door.

The USM Wind Ensemble is a unique musical experience for its members as well as for its audience, being essentially an ensemble of soloists. This group has established a tradition of performing chamber and large instrumentations, traditional or experimental combinations, and early through contemporary literature. The membership of the USM Wind Ensemble is selected from Concert Band personnel, and conducted by Trae Blanco. For this concert, selections will include percussion, guitar, piano, harpsichord and accordion!
