Public Art Resources

The following resources pertain to information relating to public art. Grant resources and other opportunities can be found in the Online Services section . Most US states have a mechanism to sponsor public art, which is usually found through their State government website. A list of these sites can be found at the National Assembly at State Arts Agencies. The Maine Arts Commission also has additional resources on its Resource Page.

Americans for the Arts
Americans for the Arts develops professional services for individuals and organizations engaged in the expanding field of public art. More than 300 public art programs exist in the state and local level. The Public Art Network connects the field through the web site and listserv.

National Assembly of State Arts Agency
The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) is the membership organization that unites, represents and serves the nation's state and jurisdictional arts agencies. Each of the 56 states and jurisdictions has created an agency to support excellence in and access to the arts.

Forecast Public Art
Publishes Public Art Review Magazine and issues grants. Dedicated to strengthen and advance the field of public art locally, regionally and nationally by expanding participation, supporting artists, informing audiences and assisting communities.

NEFA
The New England Foundation for the Arts is a regional arts organization that  functions as a grantmaker, program initiator, regional laboratory, project coordinator, developer of resources, and builder of creative partnerships in New England.

CaFÉ 
Café is a web-based service that allows organizations to manage artist-application and jury processes related to entry calls, and artists to easily apply to art opportunities.

College Art Association
An organization that supports all practitioners and interpreters of visual art and culture, including artists and scholars, who join together to cultivate the ongoing understanding of art as a fundamental form of human expression.

NYFA
The New York Foundation for the Arts, their mission is to empower artists at critical stages in their creative lives. Their site is a one-stop shop for the latest arts-related jobs and internships, opportunities and services for artists, event listings, and more. One of the best in the Country

Project for Public Spaces
An organization based in New York, with projects throughout the US and internationally.

Art in Public Space Blog
Blog developed by Glen Weiss, public art consultant in Florida. New material posted Sundays and Thursdays.

International directory of sculpture parks
A pretty extensive list of not necessarily public art, but still very interesting and worth looking at. Developed by Benbow Bullock.

Creative Commons
An organization designed to help you intellectually protect your work and still place it in the public sphere.

Copyright Information
Copyright Registration for Works of the Visual Arts. This is a good information source about copyright law and what visual artists can do to get their work protected.
