The Maine Arts Commission Current Grantees for FY 2016-17 (July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017) 

These applicants passed a rigorous public panel review, with subsequent process approval by the Commission members in July 2016. The FY 2017-18 grantees are expected to be announced in July 2017.

Projects are diverse in discipline and scope with grant amounts ranging from $800 to more than $10,000. Recipients can be found in all parts of the state and represent the quality of the culture and heritage throughout Maine.

PROJECT GRANT FOR ORGANIZATIONS

TRADITIONAL ARTS APPRENTICESHIP - The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship helps communities sustain their cultural heritage by providing an opportunity for master traditional artists to pass on their skills to a qualified apprentice or apprentices. This award will be announced this fall.

 

ARTS LEARNING—This program provides funding to support high-quality visual or performing arts education for PK-12 students and/or educators of this population.

CCED: CULTURAL PLAN—The Cultural Plan Grant is the required Phase I of the larger Creative Communities = Economic Development (CCED) Phase II Implementation Grant or an opportunity for an organization wishing to create an independent Cultural Plan. CCED is a major grant program that encourages cultural, economic and governmental sectors to work together to effect community cultural development that stimulates downtown development.

The communities themselves must be poised for growth and engaged in economic and community planning as well as development using other funding sources. Phase I will award successful community applicants a $10,000 grant to develop a Cultural Plan. Phase II will award one successful applicant the $75,000 implementation grant over three years.

CREATIVE AGINGThe Creative Aging grant supports the development of high-quality, participatory arts programs for older adults. Funds are available to support teaching artists working with adults in a range of community settings including libraries, senior centers, arts organizations, and assisted- and independent-living centers.

JANE MORRISON FILM SCHOLARSHIP—The Jane Morrison Memorial Film Fund supports educational opportunities for filmmakers. Funds from this program are designed to help filmmakers take advantage of opportunities that develop their skills and keep them current with film technology and standards. Funds can be applied towards enrichment opportunities at educational institutions, film workshops, seminars and festivals. In the past, funds have been used for classes at the Maine Media Workshops, attendance at the Summer Film Institute in New York and the Sundance Institute in Utah.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT—The Organizational Development grant is designed to support capacity-building projects for arts organizations throughout Maine. Grant funds can help address issues that include positioning of the organization, board and staff development, planning, financial management, and marketing. PARTNERSHIP GRANT—This program provides much-needed unrestricted operating funds to arts organizations and establishes a process for partnering with the Maine Arts Commission to advance the role of the arts in strengthening communities and enhancing local economies. As part of this program, Maine Arts Commission Partners are required to provide impact numbers as they increase audience engagement throughout the state.
