Grant: $2,000This grant will support the presentation of Marc Bamuthi Joseph in red, black & GREEN: a blues. This evening-length, multidisciplinary work was presented as part of the artist’s weeklong residency in Lewiston. The multimedia presentation is designed to jumpstart a conversation about environmental justice, social ecology and collective responsibility in the climate change era. Innovative Production grant funding helped support the lighting, sound and video equipment rentals required to fully realize the highly complex and technically sophisticated work.
Grant: $2,000This grant will support Limitations & Possibilities, a series of temporary installations to contextualize conversations and exercises curated to help shift perspectives on human situational limitations and potential. The artist plans to create numerous “large print” repositionable, reusable ink-jet “clings” that will be easily read by older audience members and ask them to articulate and possibly reassess fundamental aspects of their lives (past, present and future). She will enlarge specimens from her vast archive of found, gifted and bartered “to do” lists and notes selected because of a clear or ambiguous relationship with the phrase: Limitations and Possibilities. The artists will then visit12 retirement communities putting up “hit and run” displays of the clings and offering events through which residents, their family and friends, as well as staff, would have conversations prompted through allotted time to look at the clings and then write and think about the notion of Limitations and Possibilities in the prints on the walls as well as with regard to their own lives.
