To build an environment that engages all sectors, public and private, across the State to promote the awareness and value of the creative and cultural sectors,
and to invest in their sustainability

Vision

We envision a state that values the impact of arts and culture on Maine’s livability, vitality, and prosperity.

Executive Summary

The arts and culture sector in Maine is at an important crossroads in its history. For the first time in many years, the sector is unified under the Maine Arts Commission’s Five-Year Cultural Plan, Fortifying Maine’s Creativity & Culture 2015-2020, launched in the summer of 2015. The Cultural Plan’s five priorities have guided the development of ArtsEngageME’s Strategic Plan, which will be implemented by the ArtsEngageME Board and Commission staff.

1. ADVOCACY:

  • Develop the ArtsEngageME Action Network (by summer 2017)

  • Create Annual Strategy (immediately)

  • Hold Arts Advocacy Day at the State House (by spring 2019)

  • Encourage Network members to participate in National Arts Advocacy Day (annually)

2. RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT:

  • Create Resource Development Council (FY17-18)

  • Update Needs Assessment (FY18)

  • Conduct Feasibility Study (FY19)

  • Launch Endowment Campaign (FY20)

  • Grants and Donations:  Development Plan (immediately)

  • Create Membership Program (Fall 2018, launched in conjunction with MICA 2018)

  • Create Maine Arts Awards (Fall 2018, in conjunction with MICA 2018)

3. AWARENESS BUILDING

  • Create Tag Line (immediately)

  • Develop Communications Mechanisms (in progress)

  • Create and Launch Branding Campaign (Fall 2017, upon 501C3 designation)

  • Promote Partnerships, especially cross-sector (ongoing)

  • Cultural Sector Research
