Cultural Facilities Recipients
Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center

Johnson Hall Performing Arts CenterGrant: $5,000This grant will support window rehabilitation to improve the façade of Johnson Hall by removing plywood and installing storefront windows. The Hall is the oldest operating theater in Maine and the current dominance of plywood on the exterior of the building gives a “closed and condemned” appearance. The installation of windows will improve the theater’s community profile. The renovations will provide a fresh new look for the theater, improving Gardiner’s downtown and showing progress toward the goal of full renovation. The improvements will also bring more attention to and help to support the theater’s capital campaign and long-term vision and viability.

Opera House Arts

Opera House ArtsGrant: $2,976This grant will support the upgrade of the Stonington Opera House’s 1941 projection system to digital cinema in order for Opera House Arts to be able to continue to offer movies as an important backbone of its year round programming. In terms of making high level artistic programming accessible to community members, film programming is an essential component of the organization’s offerings. The ability to book and screen high-quality first-run and independent feature films from major distributors depends on this conversion.
