Grants Development

The Maine Arts Commission provides grant support for artists, school districts, community organizations and art institutions through a variety of specialized grant programs. The Maine Arts Commission draws on its state appropriation and federal funds through the National Endowment for the Arts, in addition to tapping into other public and private resources. The agency bows out of any opportunity that would compete with a constituent but rather leverages funds in order to work collaboratively with Maine’s cultural community. For an entire list of grant opportunities you can visit the Grants section of this site.

Grants Development for the Agency

The NEA is a primary partner of the Maine Arts Commission. There are certain NEA funds that only State agencies can apply for and the Maine Arts Commission is Maine's conduit to that support. There are also other organizations that specifically fund arts agencies. When it does not conflict with another application from the field, the Maine Arts Commission pursues this funding as well. Part of the Grants Development program involves seeking partner organizations or individuals to assist the Maine Arts Commission in getting a grant and completing whatever the money was intended to do. The Discovery Research project is an example of this.

Grants Development for the Field

The Grants Development program also collaborates with organizations and artists to get funding for their projects. If an outside entity needs the kind of organizational support the Maine Arts Commission can bring to an application, the agency will consider attaching itself to the project. In addition to this, the program is a resource for artists wanting grant writing information or advice for their own projects, but not wanting to form a partnership.
