Describing his work as “digital abstract sculpture”, artist Michai Morin is known for making complex 2D designs that distort the viewer’s perception of reality. Shapes and colors come in and out of the frame like a kaleidoscope. The artist bends and shapes the light around a series of spherical objects, rooting them in some fictional reality. The source of light seems to linger just out of frame as if these objects were lying out in the sun. Using his knowledge of optical psychology, radiant colors shimmer in the background, sending the viewer through a hole in time and space. Every piece feels like a door to another dimension where nothing is as it seems. As an inventor and lifelong student of the sciences, Morin executes his work with precision, shaping the light around his subjects with the utmost accuracy. Working in UHD print on acrylic glass panel, he plans out his prints with a clear sense of design, piecing together each composition as if he were recreating a scientific phenomenon.
