CALL FOR ART
The UMVA Gallery (516 Congress Street in Portland) is hosting an exhibition, Some Reliable Truths About Chairs, a juried group exhibit of 2D and 3D Art and is seeking work on the simple premise of chairs. The idea of art being reliable as its’ own truth in these uncertain times when even simple facts can be bent and manipulated is particularly relevant now.
The exhibit will run from October 3 to November 2, 2018.
Robyn Holman, retired art curator, Atrium Art Gallery at USM's Lewiston Campus will serve as a guest juror along with painter Janice L. Moore who will curate this exhibit.
Maine artists* are invited to submit images of work for consideration. All media will be considered: paintings, photography, drawings, sculpture, fiber, metal, and wood.Chairs need not be the sole focus, but must be a primary feature of the work. Accepted art must arrive ready to show with appropriate hardware. There is no entry fee to submit work for consideration, but accepted artists will need to have their annual Union of Maine Visual Artists membership up-to-date. For artists re-joining or joining for the first time, their dues will count towards 2019 membership. UMVA Membership is open to all Maine artists. The annual sliding membership contribution ($25-45) is due each January. For more information about UMVA membership and benefits go to: http://www.umvaonline.org/index.php?page=join
Works may be for sale with arrangements between the buyer and artist. All contact information must be included with delivered works. Artists will be responsible for insuring their own work while at the UMVA Gallery.
*Maine residents and artists with a strong, ongoing connection to the state of Maine.
