2021 CALL TO ARTISTS

Arts Are Elementary is pleased to announce our 2021 Call to Artists requesting proposals for professional artist residencies for Brunswick's public elementary schools during the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Call lists each grade, subject matter, media, timeframe, and stipend.

Submissions are due by April 1, 2021, 11:59 pm and should be sent to Jenn Burns Gray, Executive Director at aaedirector@gmail.com.

Questions may be directed to Jenn at that same email or 207-798-2900.

Submissions should be no longer than 2 pages in total, additional images may be supplied.  See the district curriculum links embedded for more information.

Note: Several of our grades have requested that this year’s artist return so we have removed those grades from this year’s Call.

Background

There are 2 elementary schools in Brunswick:

  • Kate Furbish Elementary School

    • 8 classes of pre-kindergarden - 15 children in each class (classes meet ½ days) (see note below)

  • 10 classes of kindergarten - approx. 20 children in each class (may go up to 11 classes with approx. 19 students each)

  • 7 classes of 1st grade - approx. 20 children in each class

  • 4 classes of mixed 1st and 2nd (multi-age) grade - approx. 20 children in each class

  • Note: The multi age classes alternate using a 1st grade or a 2nd grade curriculum. The 2021-2022 school year will be a 1st grade curriculum year for them.

  • 7 classes of 2nd grade - approx. 22 children in each class

  • Harriet Beecher Stowe

    • 8 classes of 5th grade - approx. 21 children in each class

General residencies information

  • The residencies are usually 2-4 sessions for each class, with each session being 45 minutes - 1 hour long.

  • Note regarding pre-k: We are looking for one session for each class, each being 30 to 45 minutes long, to occur in the spring.

  • An artist is often able to fit 3 or less often, 4 sessions into a day with a short break in between each session.

  • The classroom teacher will be present for all the sessions

  • Residencies will not start before 9 am and the last one will finish by 3 pm at the latest.

  • There will be a break in the middle of the day when the children are at lunch and recess, so often there will be 2 sessions in the morning, followed by a break of an hour or more and then one or possibly 2 sessions in the afternoon.
