With the theme of “all the great trees” as the subject for the open call, Ms. Minot and the curatorial team asked artists throughout Greater Portland to submit work representing the wonders of nature and a tribute to all the great trees in our lives, through both literal and abstract interpretations. The eclectic and promising response from 100 artists, providing over 200 submissions, answered the call with work across the full spectrum of two dimensional artistic mediums.

“Once again, during the jury’s selection process, I asked each team member to acknowledge if they already knew the submitting artist. How many of the artists were unknown to our curatorial team?” wondered Minot. “It was particularly thrilling to discover artists that had never submitted before, and that were previously unknown to an illustrious jury of arts educators, curators, and arts administrators.”

Creative Portland’s fifth juried show, All The Great Trees, replaces the organization’s former exhibition, Immersion, which hung from April to October 2019. As the city of Portland’s official nonprofit arts agency, Creative Portland’s mission is to support the creative economy through the arts by providing essential resources, by fostering partnerships, and by promoting Portland's artistic talents and cultural assets.
