Starting in October, the Cobscook Community learnng Center will offer a four week drawing class with  Artist Jim O’Neil. The class will run on Wednesdays, October 14-November 4, from 6:30-9:30pm.

This is a fun relaxed drawing class for beginner/intermediate level students who will learn to translate what they see onto paper by sharpening observation skills and improving drawing technique. Enjoying the process of drawing will be emphasized. Graphite pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, and pen and ink will be introduced. Students will be encouraged to keep a personal sketchbook. Come join us in the expressive art of drawing!

Jim O’Neil is a world class artist whose work can be found in major collections in the Northeast. Trained as a modern Impressionist painter, O'Neil has moved toward a precise style while at the same time not losing the ability to see and record the various reflections of color on color. Whether the central theme is a rocky cliff, sandy tidal river, or a human figure depicted on the East Coast or in Canada, the primary subject is always light itself.

O’Neil works in the studio from sketches, color studies and photographs done outside. He tries to “recall the feeling that a particular area has,” and also relies on his imagination. O'Neil studied at the Massachusetts College of Art, and apprenticed with William Maynard in Boston, and with John Terelak at his school in Massachusetts.  To see some of his work, visit the Miller Gallery’s website: http://www.millergallery.com/searchresults.php?artistId=1103

The classes will take place at the Cobscook Community Learning Center, 10 Commissary Point Road, Trescott.
