Intern

  • April 13, 2022

Opera Maine, located in Portland, is the only professional opera company in the state of Maine. For over twenty-five years the company has produced creative and inspiring opera performances of artistic excellence.  In addition to fully-staged operas in July, Opera Maine presents year-round concerts, educational programs, and salon-style serenades.

Administrative internships are available all year round. Production interns are needed from the middle of June to early August and must be available for the month of July.

Based on your professional goals and organizational needs, Opera Maine will work to customize a unique educational and professional experience! As an intern, you may assist in a variety of production areas, including Stage Management, Props/Carpentry, Costume/Wardrobe, Electrics, Lighting, Projection, General Production, and Administration.

Administrative interns work alongside the Executive Director to support various daily operations, world-class artists and experienced production team leaders in Merrill Auditorium, and get firsthand experience of professional protocols and decorum. Opera Maine interns assist in special projects, marketing and social media, and various administrative tasks.  The intern will assist those coordinating housing, transportation and other practical matters for singers, directors, designers, and production personnel.

The position requires strong organization and prioritization skills, an ability to multi-task, and maintain professional composure under pressure.  Interns receive a $200 honorarium and may receive some additional opportunities for paid work as well.
