The New Music Saturdays 'collaborative in(ter)vention series concerts are a series of four consecutive Saturday concerts in which musicians are invited to come and work together before presenting.

The concert on July 21 ’three reed solos, a duet, a trio’ features Kathryn Porter -oboe, Beth Weimann -bass clarinet, and Leslie Ross -bassoon. With some premieres performed by the composers, the evening of pieces offers, some acoustic, some with electronics or recordings; one mother / son collaboration with slide projections of Ivan Potter-Smith’s Masks, and a final improvised trio.

The concert on July 28, features a N.B.Aldrich and Al Margolis duet and an opening act with Duane Ingalls. Composers, performers and recording artists, Al Margolis (If, Bwana) and N.B.Aldrich perform together for the first time. Both are known for pushing the boundaries of electronic and instrumental music for over 30 years and together promise an evening of sonic invention.

The concert on August 4, features three seasoned bass instrument improvisers ready for a plunge into the deep; Kat Dobbins -trombone, Damon Smith -string bass, and Leslie Ross -bassoon. The opening set will be by famed Skip LaPlante who will introduce a new microtonal instrument of his.

The last concert on August 11 will open with Frank Mauceri, freshly back from Berlin playing a solo saxophone piece. The group set will feature Walter Wright -percussion, Lauren Tosswill -voice who’ll have finished a short residency with some guests.
