Interactive, Zoom Play for Classrooms!

  • April 22, 2021

Fairytales in the Time of Covid is an interactive, pre-recorded Zoom play that gets kids laughing, creating and performing! Local Teaching Artist and founder of Theatre Teacher, Teralyn Reiter, is thrilled to offer this experience to elementary schools and families living throughout Maine and the United States.

The performance shares the stories of some of our favorite characters, including Red Riding Hood, the Three Little Pigs, and Billy Goats Gruff as they try to navigate and survive the world of Zoom and Covid. The performance is accompanied by a Teacher Guide that gives an overview of what to expect as well as interactive activities that take place throughout the performance. Students will be designing costumes, designing sets, and are encouraged to create their own rap performance.

Fairytales in the Time of Covid is an orginal play created and performed by professional actors living in Maine, Washington, and South Carolina using the Zoom platform. It consists of three short vignettes with two 5-minute breaks that encourage students to design their own costumes and sets. All materials are provided in the accompanying Teacher Guide. The run time is 40 minutes. It is a perfect addition to end of the year activities or schools looking to incorporate more arts into their classrooms.

Released on April 12, schools and organizations have been thrilled with the experience so far. One teacher at Laurel Hill Elementary said, "our students ADORED this production! They had so much creating their own costumes and sets." Another wrote, "we loved creating a puppet show with our sets!" And the Gaillard Center in Charleston, SC, said "this is absolutely perfect for right now! Thank you!"

Teralyn Reiter has been working as a Teaching Artist for over 15 years throughout the United States. She works with teachers to develop and implement lesson plans that teach standards based curriculum using theatre. Throughout the pandemic, she's created a wide range of theatre based lesson plans and activities that empower teachers and families to bring more theatre into their classrooms and homes. She is always available for in-class residencies, professional development, and working one-on-one with teachers who are interested in bringing more theatre arts based lessons to their classrooms.

Run time: 40 minutes

Cost: $50/per school or $25/per family
