Three 10-day residential writing retreats available for female playwrights on beautiful North Haven Island
NORTH HAVEN, MAINE - Waterman’s Community Center, located on the midcoast Maine island of North Haven, is delighted to offer three 10-day residential retreats to developing female playwrights in late winter and early spring 2020. Designed to encourage new voices in theater, the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation grant will offer selected candidates time to create in a unique and beautiful setting and connect with the community there, sharing the power of theatre to inspire.
Accepted playwrights will spend 10 days on North Haven in February, March or April with the goal of working on new or in-progress writing projects. In addition, the playwright will collaborate with Waterman’s staff to plan one interactive community event during their residency.
The 2020 residencies will include a private efficiency apartment, a separate writing space with internet access, travel expenses covered up to $250 and a stipend of $500. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and identify as female. Residents will spend the balance of their time working and will have the opportunity to connect creatively with the island community.
Playwrights may also be invited to participate in a symposium planned on North Haven island in the summer of 2020: Female Playwrights: Challenges, Content and Accomplishments.
To apply, candidates must download the application from watermans.org/residency, complete it, and submit it via email to email@example.com. The application period will be open from October 1 - November 30.
