For A WAIT 2018, participants are invited to join Bay Area artists Andrea Steves, Yulia Pinkusevich, and Francois Hughes for Double Vision, an interactive, multimedia experience at Fort Gorges that invites collective reflection on the history of the United State’s nuclear missile defense system and current nuclear threats and fears. Activities will include wandering through and engaging with this historic site while listening to radio transmissions.

This newly commissioned work draws on research from their collaborative project, Double Vision, which explores the Cold War history of the Nike Missile Program and its counterparts in the USSR. The project began while they were artists-in-residence at the Marin Headlands – home to the Nike Missile Battery – part of a nationwide nuclear missile defense system active from 1951 to 1972.

All participants will receive a publication, refreshments, a boat ride to and from Fort Gorges and a history of the Cold War you never knew.
