CALL FOR ENTIRES: 2016 State of Maine Snow Sculpting Competition

CAMDEN, Maine – Registrations are open for the Maine State Snow Sculpting Competition, the only nationally-sanctioned event in Maine.

The snow sculpting competition is a highlight of the Camden’s annual 9-day Winterfest celebration and is held January 30-31. Participants are urged to sign up for the weekend of sculpting which includes free room and board in the coastal village of Camden.

Starting Saturday, January 30, teams of sculptors from across New England will use tools and their best creativity to sculpt 8-foot snow blocks into artistic forms of whimsy through the weekend. Snow sculptures will be judged at noon on Sunday, January 31 and will remain in place at the town’s Village Green through Camden’s week-long Winterfest, known as “Maine’s Mardi Gras.”, extending to February 7.

Winners of this year's competition will represent the State of Maine in the 2017 U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship Competition in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. All expenses for the trip are paid.

Camden Winterfest is a weeklong winter festival with events for everyone. In addition to hosting the Maine State Snow Sculpting Competition, Winterfest also features the state’s only harbor side freestyle skiing contest. Other highlights include Maine’s Mardi Gras celebration along Bay View Street, a snow plow parade, fireworks over the harbor, concerts and a downtown dance. The only nationally-sanctioned snow sculpting competition in Maine, the Maine State Snow Sculpting Competition at Camden Winterfest hosts elite sculptors from across the state in a bid to represent Maine nationally. The Camden competition will feature a People’s Choice category as well as professional judging based on creativity, artistic merit, and skill. The winner of the Maine State Snow Sculpting Competition will represent Maine at the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
