During the week of Thanksgiving, the Harlow Gallery located at 160 Water Street in Hallowell, Maine is hosting Cheryl Miller's 46 Million Turkeys project. Ms. Miller, an Augusta based artist, is exhibiting 15 years of turkey portraits and has invited the public to help her represent each of the 46 million turkeys who will be consumed in the United States over this Thanksgiving holiday. As of today Miller has amassed 1,422,493 individual works of turkey art.

Coming from as far as Berlin, Belfast, and Rome, turkeys have been “flying” in from all over the world. As part of the 46 Million Turkeys Project, artists and animal advocates have been creating turkey images as sculpture, paintings, drawings, collage, digital art and more and mailing them to Hallowell, Maine. The project was just written up in the Huffington Post on November 11 -- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ari-nessel/finding-the-goodness-in-everything_b_4235968.html

One does not have to be an artist to participate. Visit the 46millionturkeys.com website for complete guidelines about the project. The public is welcome to stop by the gallery daily Monday, November 25 to Saturday, November 30 -- including on Thanksgiving -- to create turkeys (art supplies will be provided) and be part of the exhibit.

Special Events at the Harlow Gallery during Thanksgiving week include:

On Monday, November 25th from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Peace Ridge Sanctuary located in Penobscot, will host a vegan dessert potluck. Check out the 46millionturkeys website for recipe sources.

On Saturday, November 30th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. the public is invited to meet the artist and witness the final turkey count at a closing reception. After your holiday indulgence join us some healthy plant-based noshes.
