The Brick House Gallery, at 176 Winslow Mills Road/Route 32  in the historic river town of Waldoboro, will showcase Mid-century Modern, a collection Jean Kigel’s recent paintings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – August 8th, 9th, and 10 from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. each day.

On Friday, August 8 come celebrate this new venue from 5:00–7:00 p.m. with art, light refreshments, and good conversation. For anyone unable to make these show dates, call 207-832-5152 to arrange a personal tour.

This year’s exhibit includes a variety of media both large and small. There are watercolors of chickens on synthetic kozo, Asian brush paintings of rhododendron on shuen paper, acrylics of sea-coast Maine on canvas, gyotaku fish prints on Japanese paper, and for the first time, small one-a-day oils on panel. Jean loves the observable world and the vagaries of nature. Much of her work can be seen as a local document of time and place. However, her northern lights series are reflections of both Chinese landscape painting and the Color Field idiom. A lyrical rendering typifies her style.

Kigel’s work has been exhibited in Manhattan, and her paintings sought by collectors throughout the country.
