On Saturday, September 20 at 8:00 p.m. the Boston based Roy Sludge Trio will rock the stage at the Dance Hall in Kittery. The popular band has been playing the New England area for over 5 years and their popular Sunday residency, enjoyed by young and old, earned them a "Best Residency" nomination at The Boston Music Awards in 2012 and 2013. Roy was also nominated as "Best Male Vocalist" in 2013. Their live shows have been described as "lightning in a bottle."

With a deep, rumbling voice reminiscent of Jr. Brown or Ernest Tubb and his biting sense of humor, Roy's been entertaining roots music fans for over 3 decades. He was a sideman with Barrence Whitfield & The Savages, Tarbox Ramblers and fronted the roots "supergroup" The Spurs to name a few. Currently he's been playing keyboards and singing with the Memphis Rockabilly Band on and off for over 20 years.

The Boston Globe wrote: "After 35 years of hitting stages -- or carving them out in corners of rooms -- he long ago became a central bloodline that runs through the tangled, twisting veins of the Boston rock and roots scenes."

Roy's debut CD "Too Drunk To Truck" released in 2011 features Duke Levine (Mary Chapin Carpenter, J. Geils Band, Peter Wolf) on electric guitar, Kevin Barry (Ray LaMontagne, Emmy Lou Harris) on lap steel and Jim Haggerty on bass.

Twangville's review: "Old school in all the best ways, it might as well be a collection of lost classics from the Sun Studios archive."

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and can be purchased at www.thedancehallkittery.org and RiverRun Bookstore in Wallingford Square, Kittery.
