One Lupine Fiber Arts is pleased to announce its First Annual Fiber Exhibition. The collection of work stems from 14 separate artisans and explores a diversity of creation. Work such as hand-dyed, hand-spun yarn to felted apparel and art quilts represents the work of emerging and established artists. The Show opening reception is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, June 5. 

Here’s a statement about the event from One Lupine proprietor Jodi Clayton:

“As a long-time member of the fiber community in Maine, I have been graced to meet a wide and deep expanse of fiber artists, farmers and fiber visionaries. Many of us work alone, on farms, in studios, kitchens and backyards. We come together for fiber festivals, knitting nights, spin-ins and shearing days to help each other and learn from each other-but we do not always come out in public to say, "look at this-this is what we do, this is what we love".

I thought that one of the best ways to celebrate the fact that One Lupine Fiber Arts has been in business for 13 years and to celebrate our expansion and second retail store, Maine Yarn & Fiber Supply, was to throw a fiber arts party. This, our First Annual Fiber Arts Show, is our party, and you are invited.

From an object as prosaic as a skein of handspun yarn, to the gossamer grace of a nuno felted wrap, natural fibers envelope and protect us. They reflect ancient traditions as well as modern concepts and techniques, and are woven across our aesthetic, social and economic constructs in ways so complete as to be almost invisible. Sheep to shawl or sweater and farm to table are foundations of sustainable living and deep contentment. We are truly fortunate to live in a state with an incredible resource base for this story-our story.
