Glass Artist Jason McDonald to Host Artist Talk and Studio Demonstration at Waterfall Arts as part of Week-Long Residency

Belfast, Maine – March 18, 2024 – Waterfall Arts is thrilled to host Jason McDonald, an accomplished artist renowned for his mastery of Venetian furnace techniques, as their April Artist In Residence. As part of Jason's week-long residency, culminating in a sold-out intensive workshop, the public is invited to an exclusive artist talk and studio demonstration on April 13, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Waterfall Arts, located at 256 High Street in Belfast.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with Jason McDonald as he shares insights into his illustrious career, his journey in becoming a glassblower, and his residency experiences, including his experience on Season 2 of the Netflix series Blown Away. Following the artist talk, McDonald will captivate the audience with a live demonstration in the Waterfall Arts hot shop, showcasing his mastery of Venetian furnace techniques.

Admission to this exclusive event is $50.00 per person, which includes access to both the artist talk and studio demonstration, as well as a complimentary hand-blown drinking glass made by Waterfall Arts' own Glassworks Studio students and staff. Get your tickets here.

About Jason McDonald:

Jason McDonald is a highly regarded glass artist known for his expertise in Venetian furnace techniques. As a Windgate Fellowship recipient and a contestant on Blown Away Season 2, McDonald has garnered international recognition for his innovative approach to glass art. His impressive resume includes residencies at esteemed institutions such as the Pittsburgh Glass Center and Pilchuck Glass School, as well as teaching positions at prestigious craft schools like Penland School of Craft, Pilchuck Glass School, and Pratt Fine Arts.

McDonald's identity as a working-class Black man in a predominantly privileged field adds depth to his art, transforming each creation into a poignant reflection on themes of isolation, access, perseverance, and excellence. His commitment to education and representation underscores his belief in the importance of sharing knowledge and fostering diversity within the arts community.

In his own words, McDonald expresses his passion for teaching: "I firmly believe that everything I know, someone had to show me. It’s my duty to share what has been so generously shared with me." By actively engaging in teaching and public speaking engagements, McDonald strives to inspire individuals from all backgrounds to pursue their artistic ambitions.
