Maine Arts Commission Announces Grants to Support Artists, Creative Projects, and Community Organizations

AUGUSTA, MAINE – The Maine Arts Commission is investing more than $325,000 into the state’s arts sector through its latest round of grant awards. In total, 96 artists and organizations will receive funding for public art projects, creative services, and educational resources that seek to strengthen and broaden access to the arts across the state.

Arts Commission members met in June and July to approve the grant making process. The Arts Commission’s 2023 fiscal year grant offerings (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023) include: Artist & Organization Project Grants, Organization Operation Costs, Creative Aging programs for the elderly, and a new Springboard Grant for first time applicants, emerging artists, or artists that may encountered barriers to getting funded by the agency.

In addition to this round of grant funding, in February of 2022 the Maine Arts Commission invested over $500,000 of American Rescue Plan funding to bolster Maine’s creative workforce. Additional funding opportunities were also offered, including Fellowship Awards, Traditional Arts and Craft Apprenticeships, and a Ticket To Ride program which helps schools afford transportation to arts venues.
