Functional Pottery with Nathan Willever

5 weeks – June 3 – July 1   5-7:00 p.m.

This class will focus on making functional pottery for everyday use on the wheel. We will start developing our skills with the cup form and move onto more challenging forms such as the bowl, pitcher and plate. We will be working with cone five white stoneware to make durable, food safe pots. The class is open to all experience levels. $150 members – $170 non-members

 

Photoshop Workshop for Artists- with: Kris Engman and Alan Stubbs

June 15, 16 and 17  10-4:00 p.m.    $250

This workshop is an intensive 3-day experience designed expressly to help the visual artist use PHOTOSHOP to effectively manipulate imagery digitally. Although our primary focus will be to develop opportunities to expand the work process in the studio, we will also help prepare images for your website or put together a talk/presentation. Alan Stubbs is retired faculty from UMaine, where he taught Photoshop and Photography for over 10 years. Kris Engman uses Photoshop in her work as a painter. She currently teaches drawing, design and painting at Umaine and at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast. All are welcome. No experience necessary. Drawing from Nature with Kris Engman

6 weeks, Tuesdays 12-4 beginning June 18  $350

A six week Nature Drawing class – meets one day a week from 12 to 4:00 p.m. for 6 weeks. We meet in Damariscotta and then head out to draw from Nature, from the micro to the macro – the panoramic landscape (woodlands/ lakes/ waterfalls ), the seaside/ tide pools), farms (animals such as pigs, alpacas)  onto butterflies, flowers, bugs, crabs and lobsters. From June through July on Tuesdays. Full exploration of materials and methods.

Kerstin Engman exhibits at the Arden Gallery, Boston, and the Courthouse Gallery, Ellsworth, among other venues. She received her MFA from University of Pennsylvania, where she studied with Neil Welliver, and her BFA from Maine College of Art, with additional study at Rhode Island School of Design. Engman brings a rich and broad career in painting, drawing, sculpture and digital media to the juror’s role. In her work she explores varied visions, media, materials and genres. In 1997 she became founder and director of Project Kalocsa, a cultural exchange between Hungary and the USA. She has also worked in arts education in Maine schools and in several New England colleges, including Maine College of Art, and is presently on the faculty of University of Maine. www.kerstinengman.com

 

Pastel Painting- 2 day Workshop with Robert K. Carsten

The Beauty of Light and Color in Pastel – June 19 and 20 from 10-4:00 p.m.

This fun and educational workshop by a popular and nationally acclaimed instructor is specially designed to give your creativity a boost. Using the subject matter of your choice, learn new ways to interpret subjects using organized light effects and corresponding color choices, and get the ‘edge’ on edges! Considerable attention will be given to further developing understanding and sensitivity to light’s effects upon color, mass, and edges of forms within your pastel paintings for strong, visual impact. Work indoors from your landscape photos, sketches, still life objects, or outside from life. Demonstrations, critiques and lots of painting time. All levels welcome.

Robert K. Carsten, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the Connecticut Pastel Society, and an Honorary lifetime member of the Southwest Florida Pastel Society. A regular contributing writer for The Pastel Journal and the Artist’s Magazine, he has also won many national and regional awards  His paintings were featured by Students League of NY, the Rhode Island School of Design and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy.
