There will be 40 minute consecutive performances performed throughout the day by 14 community bands from around the state, who will play music from 1870s brass-band sounds to contemporary and show tunes. There will be a "Mass Band" performance, bringing together as many musicians present, all taking the stage at once (12:20 – 1:10). Robert Browne Hall was born in 1858 in Bowdoinham, Maine. He was an internationally recognized composer primarily of marches having published 62 marches in his career but wrote over a hundred marches and other compositions. He also was an accomplished cornet soloist, conductor and teacher.

In 1981, then-Maine Gov. Joseph Brennan proclaimed the last Saturday of each June as R.B. Hall Day to commemorate and honor R. B. Hall, one of Maine’s outstanding citizens. John Philip Sousa played one of Hall's marches at the opening of a concert at the Paris Exhibition in 1900.

Dennis Harrington of Oakland, also a trumpet player for the R.B. Hall Band, will wear a period uniform as R.B. Hall himself and will perform with one of Hall's own cornets from the Redington Museum in Waterville. The R.B. Hall Band itself was formed as an outgrowth of the Bourque-Lanigan Post 5 American Legion Band, which ceased activities in the late 1960s.
