About the Artist
A citizen's group of activists, educators, and parents from the Cobscook Bay region of Eastern Washington County, Maine came together in 1999 to develop a learning center that would enhance the quality of life of area residents. The CCLC has plied elements of Folk, Indigenous and Popular
Education in shaping a mission, vision and set of guiding values. Serving both the local and global community, the CCLC incorporates the arts, the rich local social fabric, dialogue, and experiences with the land into all its programs.
The CCLC's year-round program offerings include courses and activities related to education, society, arts, culture and the environment. The CCLC provides a central and accessible meeting space for community groups and access to arts for all ages including music, dance, theater, writing, pottery, and painting. We support outreach and supplementary programs for public schools, including the arts, experiential learning, environmental studies, and community leadership, as well as much needed alternative education opportunities. We also provide a safe, inviting and supportive environment for Adult Basic Education participants, support and programs for home schooling families, and a variety of courses and ongoing activities designed to promote lifelong learning. All of these will blend to realize our educational goals.
Born of creative dialogue, the CCLC is a cooperative venture dedicated to fostering enduring bonds, recognizing and respecting local traditional wisdom, and supporting the development of a broad leadership base which spans all generations.
